Abstract: Chest imaging makes an important contribution to the pre-operative assessment of patients with lung cancer. Whilst there are accepted standard approaches for most operable patients, based on the International Staging System, there is variation in surgical strategy for those with more extensive tumours at the limits of resectability. The International Staging System, and the operative management of non-small cell lung cancer, will, therefore, be briefly discussed, before the radiological evaluation of intrathoracic non-small cell cancer is considered.
